🔍 Source Transparency

Where our data comes from and how we evaluate confidence.

🏛️ Government Official Sources (Confidence: 90–100%)
Secretary of State websites, state tax authority portals, official government publications, and legislative databases. The highest-confidence source type — data is pulled directly from official government records. Examples: secretary.state.gov sites, irs.gov, state comptroller offices.
📖 Legal Database Sources (Confidence: 75–89%)
Established legal research databases, law review publications, model form repositories, and attorney-published guides. High confidence but subject to interpretation — we verify against primary sources where possible.
⚖️ How We Calculate Confidence Scores
Each data point starts with a base confidence score based on its source type (government official = 0.95, legal database = 0.75). Scores automatically degrade if:
  • 3 consecutive refresh attempts fail → confidence −0.2 and status flagged as 'stale'
  • Data is older than 180 days → confidence capped at 0.30 and status set to 'degraded'
  • Data is older than 90 days → status set to 'stale' (confidence unchanged)
Data marked as degraded (red) triggers automatic priority review. We never serve degraded data without a visible warning.

📅 Freshness Commitment

Our Data Maintenance Standards

🔄
State legal data is reviewed and refreshed monthly. Covers LLC filing fees, employment law, non-compete rules, privacy laws, and state tax thresholds for all 50 states + DC.
🏢
Entity formation steps are reviewed quarterly — filing requirements, costs, and timelines rarely change, but we verify against Secretary of State portals each quarter.
📚
Clause library clauses are updated quarterly. Legal language and risk notes are reviewed against current legal standards and model form repositories.
🚨
If a refresh fails, data is automatically flagged as potentially outdated. We never silently serve stale data as current. Visible warnings appear on all affected tools.
⚖️
Even with verified data, laws change. Always consult a licensed attorney for decisions involving significant legal or financial risk. Read our AI Disclaimer →
